This Friday, our new mandarin students had an unforgettable Chinese culture class, our mandarin teacher introduced them another side of china.

In the famous attractions and cities, xi’an is the most famous ancient capital in China. It is one of the four ancient civilizations of the world. Terracotta Army (Terra-Cotta Warriors) is symbol of xi’an, Terracotta- the eighth wonder in the world, a door for people to know about the Qing Dynasty. Terracotta has been used throughout history for sculpture and pottery, as well as bricks and roof shingles. In ancient times, the first clay sculptures were dried (baked) in the sun after being formed. Later, they were placed in the ashes of open hearths to harden, and finally kilns were used, similar to those used for pottery today.

China’s religion and Philosophy: Confucianism (儒家; pinyin: Rújiā) is a Chinese ethical and philosophical system developed from the teachings of Confucius. But Buddhism is the most important religion in China. It is generally believed that it was spread to Central China during the Han Dynasty (206 BC-220 BC). During its development in China, it has a profound influence on traditional Chinese culture and thoughts, and has become one of the most important religions in China.

Chinese festival, the most important one is spring festival, know as Chinese New Year just as important as Christmas Day in western culture. On that day, people make paper-cut “fu”, means blessing and good fortune. Normally we put “fu” verse, because “fu dao le” is the same pronunciation as good fortune has come.

Chinese cuisine arts are famous all over the world. Chinese dishes appeal to the senses through sight, smell, taste, texture.Chinese cuisine includes a variety of different flavors due to China's vast geography and diverse nationalities. Local dishes with their own distinctiveness can be roughly divided into eight regional cuisines.

The most attractive part is Chinese Kung Fu. Kung Fu is an important and unique component of Chinese cultural heritage with centuries of cultural history attached.

Kung Fu not only includes physical exercise but also Chinese philosophy, meditation and aesthetics. Kung Fu’s purpose from self-defense to health maintenance and finally as method of self-cultivation.
