Wuxi Mandarin School May Holiday Notice

The International Labor Day is called May Day for short, which is on May 1st every year. It is the world labor people's common festival. The origin of May Day is as follows:

This festival originated from the workers’ strike of Chicago. On May 1st 1886, more than 200 thousand workers in Chicago hold a strike for practicing eight-hour day. They finally achieved victory through hard struggle. To commemorate this workers' movement, a socialist congress organized by Marxist social activists was grandly convened in Paris on July 14 1889. During the conference, delegates agreed: set May 1st as an international proletarian common festival. The world workers all made active response. On May 1st 1890, working class of European and American countries held grand demonstrations and rallies on streets, fighting for their legal rights. From then on, Labor people of the whole world would hold assemblies and processions to celebrate May Day.

The Chinese people celebrate the Labor Day activities can dates back to 1918. In that year, some progressive intellectuals distributed handbills to introduce May 1st Labor Day in Shanghai, Suzhou and some other places. Then on May 1st 1920, some workers in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and other industrial cities gave a large-scale congregation and parade. After the foundation of the PRC, the central government set May 1st as a statutory festival in December 1949.

As the labor day holiday is coming soon, our school will have holiday from the April 29th to May 1th. Nobody will work or stand by during this holiday. If you have any questions or need help, please contact the number:18661199908. Students can contact: 67777.

All the students please pay attention on the following things :

1. If you have plan to travel or to visit friends to the other cities, please make sure let us know your schedule. the email is: iej@mandarinedu.org

2. If you will leave your apartment for more than one day, please make sure to disconnected your power and water(Include refrigerator、bathroom water heater etc.) and lock your door and window.

3. Since Labor day holiday is the most crowed time, so please be careful any of the criminal or misunderstanding things happen to you. All the students please don’t break the Chinese laws, please respect the local regulations, Please don’t talk to the person you don’t know on the road, especially don’t drink,eat or smoke anything from the strangers, don’t go to unfamiliar village or town alone. If you have any special arrangement please inform school .

4. Whatever you will stay in Wuxi or go out to traveling, please take care for your own safety, the train will be very crowded during this holiday, please arrange your schedule in advance. If you need school help to book train ticket please inform us before April 28th(include return ticket).
