In this blog post, I’ll be writing about sending postcards in Shanghai.
I am Media, Culture, and Communication major. During my free time, I am often writing blogs, commenting on people’s Facebook statuses, and many more! I guess I am more used to email or mobile communication because I usually shoot an email to my professors to ask questions and iMessage my parents in Korea once or twice a day to say hi and stuff.
However, although email or iMessage is convenient and fast and all that… I get Christmas cards or post cards from my friends or family, I GET SO HAPPY!
And I personally think taking time to write cards or letters with your own hands makes the experience (for both writer and the reader) more special, personal, and intimate!
So when I travel to other countries or somewhere special, I try to buy nice postcards and send them to my friends. And I wanted to continue that tradition here in Shanghai.
How do you send your postcards here?
You will be seeing a lot of sign like this when you walk around Shanghai.
And yes, you are not wrong. It is the post office.
So after you are done with writing your postcards, you can just take your postcards to
the post office and ask for 油票 (yóupiào, Chinese name for postage).
And they will ask you where you are going to be sending your postcards to.
Just say 美国(Měiguó, Chinese name for United States).
Each international postage will cost you 4.5 kuai (So cheap!)
And lick it and put it on your postcard and BAM. You are ready to send them! J
*You don’t have to write your address in Chinese. Just in case you are wondering!
That was easy!
