The Thief and His Mother

  A boy stole a book from one of his classmates and took it home to his Mother. His Mother not only abstained from beating him，but encouraged him. He next time stole a coat and brought it to her，and she again commended him. Time flies，he grew up and proceeded to steal things of greater value. At last he was caught in the very act,  having his hands bound behind him， and was taken to police station. His Mother followed in the crowd and cried. The young man said， “I wish to say something to my Mother .” She came close to him，and he quickly seized her ear with his teeth and bit it off. The Mother was very angry. The son said “Ah！ if you had beaten me when I first stole and brought to you that book，I wouldn't be like this today.”

This story shows that small mistakes are not punished at first and will surely lead to big mistakes.

偷东西的小孩和他的母亲

有个小孩在学校里偷了同学一本书，拿回家交给母亲。母亲不但没批评，反而还夸他能干。第二次他偷回家一件大衣，交给母亲，母亲很满意，更加夸奖他。随着岁月的流逝，小孩长大成小伙子了，便开始去偷更大的东西。有一次，他被当场捉住，反绑着双手，被押送到警察局那里。他母亲跟在后面，捶胸痛哭。这时，小偷说，他想和母亲贴耳说一句话。他母亲马上走了上去，儿子一下猛地用力咬住她的耳朵，并撕了下来。母亲骂他不孝，犯杀头之罪还不够，还要使母亲致残。儿子说道：“我初次偷书交给你时，如果你能打我一顿，今天我何至于落到这种可悲的结局，被押去处死呢？”

这故事说明，小错起初不惩治，必将酿成大错。

물건을 훔치는 아이와 그의 어머니

어떤 아이가 학교에서 급우의 책 한 권을 훔치고 집으로 가져가서 어머니에게 건네주었다.어머니는 그를 꾸짖기ㅣ는커녕 오히려 유능하다고 칭찬했다.두 번째 그는 집에 코트 한 벌을 훔쳐서 어머니께 드렸고, 어머니는 매우 만족했고 그를 더욱 칭찬했습니다.세월이 흐르면서 아이는 총각이 되어 더 큰 것을 훔치기 시작했다.한번은 현장에서 붙잡혀 두 손을 뒤로 묶은 채 경찰서로 끌려갔다.그의 어머니는 뒤따르며 가슴을 치며 통곡했다.이때, 도둑은 어머니와 귓속말로 한마디 하고 싶다고 말했다.그의 어머니가 곧 걸어 올라가자 아들은 그녀의 귀를 덥석 물며 찢어버렸다.어머니가 그를 불효하다고 꾸짖는 것은 머리를 죽인 죄를 짓는 것으로도 충분하지 않으며 어머니를 불구로 만들어야 한다.아들은 "내가 처음 책을 훔쳐서 너에게 주었을 때 네가 나를 때릴 수 있었다면 오늘 내가 어찌 이런 슬픈 결말을 맞이하여 압송되어 처형당할 수 있었겠느냐"고 말했다.

이 이야기는 작은 잘못은 처음부터 처벌하지 않으면 반드시 큰 잘못으로 이어진다는 것을 설명한다.
