宝石变废石

  一天，有位从新疆来的珠宝商人到一户人家谈生意时，看见案头上压着一块半透明的石头，就想用一块小玉饰换过来，主人没同意。后来又去谈了几次，主人故意把售价提得很高，而且还有附加条件，因而没有成交。

  这家的主人心里想：这块不怎么起眼的石头居然有人再三想收购，如果将它整修一新，岂不是会令人更喜爱？于是，就用砂纸把这块半透明的石头郑重其事地打磨了一番，还钻了孔，系上了红丝带，显得圆润高贵。可是过了一年多，这块已打磨光亮的玉石仍然没有人问津，主人百思不解。

  后来，那位从新疆返回来的珠宝商又来到这户人家，看见这块打磨过的石头后非常惋惜地说：“这块石头其实是一块很稀罕的宝玉，原有十二个很小的孔，按十二时辰排列，每过一个时辰就会有一个孔变成红色，依次消失，周而复始。因此，这块玉石还是一种计算时间的天然仪器。可是，如今这玉石经打磨后，不仅份量减轻了，而且更重要的是能变色计时的小孔也被磨掉了，更使这块玉石的价值大打折扣。原来至少可卖万元以上，可现在就是一千元也没几个人想要了，因为这块玉石现在不仅太平常了，而且经打磨后容易风化变脆，若干年后会逐渐破碎。”说完，这位识货的新疆人转身便走了。

  这个故事的教训是深刻的：一是要有识别能力和求教精神，自作聪明往往会弄巧成拙；二是要朴实自然和物尽其用，外表光亮不等于有实用价值。虽说“玉不磨不成器”，可有的玉一磨反而会变成废石。

Jade became stone

One day, when a jewelry merchant from Xinjiang came to a family to talk about business, he saw a translucent stone on the desk and wanted to exchange it with a small jade ornament. The owner did not agree. After several more talks, the owner deliberately raised the price and attached conditions, so there was no deal.

The owner of the house thought "Isn't it better to have the stone renovated because someone wants to buy it again and again?" Later, the jeweller who had returned from Xinjiang came to this family and saw the polished stone and said with great regret: "This stone is actually a very rare jade, and the original one has twelve small holes are arranged according to twelve hours.  A hole will turn red when an hour later, disappear in turn, and start again and again. Therefore, this jade is also a natural instrument for calculating time. However, now that this jade has been polished, not only has the amount of weight been reduced, but more importantly, the small hole that can change color and timing has also been ground, which has greatly reduced the value of this jade. Originally, it could sell more than 10,000 yuan, but now it is a thousand yuan and few people want it, because this jade is not only too common now, but also easy to weathered and brittle after being polished, and it will gradually break after several years. "After saying that, the Xinjiang man who knew the goods turned and left.

The lesson of this story is profound: First, We should have the ability to identify and seek advice, smart people often self-defeating; Second, it is necessary to be simple and natural and to use everything, and the appearance of good is not equal to practical value. Although "jade does not grind not into a device," but some jade will become a stone.

보석이 버려진 돌로 변하다

어느 하루, 신강에서 온 한 보석상인이 장사를 담론할 때 책상위에 반투명한 돌이 놓여있는것을 보고 옥으로 바꿔오려는데 주인은 동의하지 않았다.후에 또 몇번 이야기를 나누었는데 주인은 일부러 판매가격을 높게 올렸고 게다가 부가조건을 붙였으므로 거래가 성사되지 않았다.

이 집의 주인은 속으로 별로 눈에 뜨이지 않는 돌멩이를 누군가 재삼 수매하려고 하는데 만약 그것을 새롭게 수리한다면 사람들이 더욱 좋아하지 않겠는가하고 생각했다.그러자 주인은 반투명한 돌을 사포로 정성스레 다듬고 구멍을 뚫어 빨간 리본을 매달아 둥글고 고급스럽게 보이게 하였다.그러자 주인은 반투명한 돌을 사포로 정중하게 다듬고 구멍을 뚫어 붉은 리본을 달아 둥글고 고귀하게 보이게 했다.그러나 1년여가 지나도 반들반들하게 다듬은 이 옥돌은 여전히 거들떠보는 사람이 없었으며 주인은 아무리 생각해도 이해할수 못한다.

후에 신강에서 돌아온 그 보석상이 다시 이 집에 왔는데,다듬은 돌을 보고 몹시 아쉬워하면서  말했다:"이 돌은 사실 아주 희한 보옥이다.그는 12개 아주 작은 구멍이 있는데 12시진별로 배렬하면 매 시진이 지날 때마다 하나의 구멍이 빨간색으로 변하면서 사라지며 이렇게 반복된다.그래서 이 옥돌은 시간을 계산하는 천연측정기구이다.그러나 지금이 옥돌은 갈고 닦은후 무게가 경감되였을뿐만아니라 더욱 중요하게는 변색하여 시간을 계산할수 있는 작은 구멍까지 닳아버려 옥석의 가치를 크게 저락시켰다. 원래는 적어도만 원 이상 팔수 있었지만 지금은 천원이라도 팔려는 사람이 별로 없다. 왜냐하면이 옥돌은 지금 너무 평범할뿐만아니라 잘 다듬으면 풍화되여 부러지기 쉬우며 몇년후에는 점차 부서져갈것이다."말을 끝낸 이 물건을 알아보는 신강사람은 몸을 돌려 가버렸다.

이 이야기의 교훈은 심각하다.첫째는 식별능력과 가르침을 구하는 정신이 있어야 하며, 스스로 총명한체하면 흔히 재간을 부리다가 졸렬해진다.둘째는 소박한 자연과 사물이 제 기능을 다해야 한다는 것이고, 겉만 번지르르하다고 해서 실용적인 가치가 있는 것은 아니다."옥이 다듬히지 않으면 그릇이 되지 않는다"고 하지만, 어떤 옥은 다듬기만 하면 오히려 폐석이 되기도 한다.
