春秋时代有位宋国的农夫，他每天早上很早就到田里工作，一直到太阳下山才收拾农具准备回家。有一天，农夫正在田里辛苦的工作，突然却远远跑来一只兔子。这只兔子跑得又急又快，一个不小心，兔子撞上稻田旁边的大树，这一撞，撞断了兔子的颈部，兔子当场倒地死亡。一旁的农夫看到之后，急忙跑上前将死了的兔子一手抓起，然后很开心的收拾农具准备回家把这只兔子煮来吃。农夫心想，天底下既然有这么好的事，自己又何必每天辛苦的耕田？

 从此以后，他整天守在大树旁，希望能再等到不小心撞死的兔子。可是许多天过去了，他都没等到撞死在大树下的兔子，反而因为他不处理农田的事，因此田里长满了杂草，一天比一天更荒芜。

Once upon a time, there was a farmer. He went to work in the field early in the morning and didn't pack up his farm tools until the sun went down. One day, the farmer was working hard in the field, but suddenly came a rabbit far away. The rabbit ran fast and fast. One of them accidentally ran into the big tree beside the rice field. Then he was very happy to pack up his farm tools and prepare to go home and cook the rabbit. The farmer thought, since there is such a good thing in the world, why do you have to work hard every day?

From then on, he stayed by the tree all day, hoping to wait until the rabbit accidentally killed. But many days later, he didn't wait to run into the rabbit under the tree. Instead, because he didn't deal with the farmland, the field was full of weeds, which became more desolate day by day.

옛날에는 아침 일찍 밭에 나가 일하던 송나라 농부가 해가 질 때까지 농기구를 치우고 집으로 돌아갈 준비를 했다.어느 날 농부가 밭에서 힘들게 일하고 있었는데 갑자기 토끼 한 마리가 멀리 달려왔다.이 토끼는 급히 달리고 또 빨라서 실수로 논 옆에 있는 큰 나무를 들이받았는데, 이것이 부딪혀서 토끼의 목을 부러뜨렸고 토끼는 그 자리에서 쓰러져 죽었다.한옆의 농부는 보고는 급히 달려와 죽은 토끼를 한손에 잡아들인 후, 즐거운 농기구를 치우고 집에 가서 이 토끼를 삶아 먹을 준비를 했다.하늘 아래 이렇게 좋은 일이 있는 이상, 자기가 어찌 매일 고생스럽게 농사를 지을 필요가 있겠느냐고 농부는 마음속으로 생각했다.

그 후로 그는 하루 종일 큰 나무 곁을 지키며 실수로 죽은 토끼를 다시 기다릴 수 있기를 바랬다.그러나 많은 날이 지나자, 그는 큰 나무 아래에 있는 토끼를 치어 죽일 때까지 기다리지 않고, 오히려 그가 밭일을 처리하지 않기 때문에, 밭에 잡초가 무성하게 자라 하루보다 더 황폐해졌다.
