5 Jiangsu projects apply for intangible cultural heritage of humanity
Five of Jiangsu’s intangible cultural heritages including the Suzhou embroidery, Yixing red pottery, Huishan clay figurines, Suzhou Pingtan (storytelling and ballad singing) and Yangzhou jade carving have been recommended to apply for the “List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity", the reporter learnt from the Department of Culture of Jiangsu province on July 27.
The inscriptions on the “List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity" is decided by the UNESCO once every two years. Each time, only one item from each member state can be included in the list.
Although many projects have been recommended for the application, the Department of Culture was very confident in Jiangsu’s applicants. “For example, the level of Suzhou embroidery is arguably the world's No 1 and it will soon or later enter the ‘List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity’. If you go to visit Suzhou embroidery, you will find it very amazing!” said a person involved from the department.
It is reported that if one of these five projects in Jiangsu gets nominated for the list, the central government will notify the local government one year in advance to spare no effort preparing for the application for the “List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity”.
